Jun 08It gets so annoying when the notebook screen goes dark for no reason and you are unable to use the computer anymore. At that moment you feel lost and you don’t know how to handle things and what to do. But in this situation, the screen inverter can be the problem. To be clearer, this is actually the small rectangular circuit board providing power to the screen, making it light up. Without this inverter, you will not see a lot what happens on the screen, but don’t panic. The good thing is that you can manage to fix the screen and the inverter on your own. A Philips screwdriver is all you need to fix the HP notebook black screen issue.
First of all, you need to turn off the HP notebook and remove the power cord in case it is connected. Flip the LCD panel to its open position and use the tip of the Philips screwdriver to pop the rubber covers off the screws. The frame surrounding the screen is the plastic bezel and you need to remove the screws attached to it. The amount depends on the HP notebook you have, but usually the screws are located on the top and bottom sides of the bezel. Now use your fingers to go around the bezel at the corners and pry it away from the screen. Just below the screen you should be able to spot the green inverter board.

Furthermore, use your fingers again to make sure the cables plugged in at either side of the inverter are not loose, press them firmly in the sockets to make sure they are strongly connected. The inverter board is now fixed and you can replace the screen bezel and the screws in order to power up your notebook and see if the screen is now visible. It may the fault of the screen if the procedure did not work for you. In this case, before you start shopping for a new replacement screen, you should check to see if it really is the cause.

To do this, you should connect the computer to an external display. Use the VGA or S-video out port and see if on another screen the laptop does display any information. If this happens, then without doubts, the screen must be replaced. You can bother to do it yourself, but as it requires a lot of work so you can consider a professional.
