HP G71 notebook is actually part of the series of 17” notebook computers designed by the company. The series has the characteristic of offering large displays and being customizable. When you are looking for a desktop replacement, you have to take into account the fact that you will need a large display. If you don’t carry the system out of the house or office too much, it is better to get a 17” notebook or larger one, so you can enjoy computing tasks, watch movies, videos and have enough space for multiple spreadsheets and web pages. But as HP G71 series of notebook computers come in various models, let’s just see a couple of them.

HP G71-340US can be bought for $599 online, pretty decent price for such a large system. The battery life is decent for its class and the display is bright and has a very good image quality. But the notebook does not offer any multimedia controls or Blu-ray and the integrated Intel graphics deliver poor graphics performance. But the notebook can handle basic everyday tasks, but it doesn’t provide that gaming or multimedia experience you would expect from a desktop replacement. Performance is decent from Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 processor, 4GB memory and Intel GMA 4500M integrated graphics. The battery life holds on for about two hours and 40 minutes and ports offers VGA and HDMI.

HP G71-447US is offering a decent price as well, $699 and the same 17.3” display. The system works on Intel Pentium Dual Core processor T4400, has 3GB DDR2 memory and a 250GB hard drive. Again, just for everyday computing at home, the computer will work just fine, but this is a moderate configuration that does not speak “intensive” or “powerful” at any point. With built in webcam and microphone you can handle video chatting and the HDMI port enables connecting the notebook to a HDTV.

There are several other models within the HP G71 series of notebook computers, so you can take the time and browse through a couple of them just to make a better impression. But keep in mind that if you need a more solid notebook to use at home, you can take a look at other series, such as DV7, which packs better components and deliver power and performance. It also depends on your budget; perhaps you are not willing to spend more than mentioned, so you can stick to these models.
