Acer Signal Up
Jan 12Acer Signal-up is the marketing name for Acer Wireless technology, used within the Acer laptops, from different series, such as Acer TravelMate, Acer Ferrari, and Acer Aspire. The Acer Signal-up assures Wi-Fi compatibility and WPA/CCX security. Moreover, the Acer Signal-up technology guarantees compatibility via Wi-Fi Alliance certification, which ensures constant connectivity as you move from one Wi-Fi zone to another. With strong security protocols, such as Wi-Fi Alliance-verified WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) and Cisco’s CCX (Cisco Compatibility Extension), the critical information is kept confidential at all times.
Wireless communication is generally considered to be a branch of telecommunications. It encompasses various types of fixed, mobile, and portable two-way radios, cellular telephones, personal digital assistants (PDAs), and wireless networking. Other examples of wireless technology include GPS units, garage door openers and or garage doors, wireless computer mice, keyboards and headsets, satellite television and cordless telephones. Regardless of how the wireless set up is configured, signal strength and stability are determined by a single factor: antenna design.
While Acer has provided quality wireless products for years, recent research and innovation at Acer has lead to the next generation in wireless performance. Acer Signal-up technology, incorporating the four innovative designs outlined below, enabling access to a new era of reliable wireless freedom.
Based on the principle that signal reception increases the higher the antenna is located, Acer has placed two efficient PIFA antennas on top of the notebook’s LCD panel.
The Acer Signal-up dual-antenna panel-top design creates an omni-directional signal sphere, which ensures that your wireless connection remains strong even at the outer range limits of available access points. Compared to other notebooks, the panel-top placement of Acer Signal-up reduces the interference caused by shielding, mechanical parts and any electrical and thermal noise from the main board and processor. The panel-top design has been endorsed and recommended by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), as it also minimises the signal absorption rate (SAR) by the human body. The panel-top position creates an omni-directional signal field.
Acer has the advantage of being the only PC maker to have its own RF (radio frequency) laboratory in Taiwan, where its wireless products are made under rigorous quality control standards for both manufacturing and testing.
Acer Signal-up technology utilises the most efficient antenna type available on the market — PIFA (planar inverted-F antenna). This particular antenna creates an exceptionally uniform 3D signal sphere through its inverted-F design, which generates an omni-directional signal field. In comparison to other popular two-dimensional antenna types, such as IFA (inverted-F antenna) and MLA (meander-line antenna), the 3D signal generated by the cubic structure of PIFA-type antennae offers double the surface area of other antennas guaranteeing the highest levels of antenna efficiency for enhanced transmission and reception.11
