Dec 31The Aspire 8942 is an Acer notebook series. The Aspire 8942 is part of the seventh line (8xxx) released within the Aspire series. The Aspire 8xxx line includes beside the Aspire 8942, several other Aspire notebook, such as Aspire 8940G, Aspire 8735G, Aspire 8943, Aspire 8730G, and Aspire 8530G. Furthermore, Aspire 8942 is not the direct successor of any previous Acer products, but can be considered a technological upgrade of previous Acer Aspire lines. Although it was not developed as a back-to-back product, the Aspire 8942 was by far a stand-alone product, since Acer delivered the Aspire 8942 notebooks within three different configurations, such as AS8942G-526G64Bi, AS8942G-336G50Bn, and AS8942G-334G32Bn.
However, Acer offered users the possibility of self-configure their Aspire 8942. The Aspire 8942 was succeeded (from the technological point of view) by its direct successors, also part of the Aspire 8xxx line (from the Europe region Acer portfolio). The Aspire 8942 series included the main features of the Aspire notebook series, such as Acer Crystalbrite, Acer Quickcharge, Acer Signal-up, Acer Gridvista, Acer Dasp+, Acer Video Conference, and Acer TPM. However, hardware features, including the processor, the system memory, the display, the operating system, and even hard disk capacity, were strictly depending upon the configurations available within the Aspire 8942 series. The second configuration Aspire 8942 featured the Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium, Intel Core i3-330M processor (2.13GHz, 3MB L3 cache), 18.4″ Full HD Acer CineCrystal LED LCD, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 (1G DDR3), 6 GB Memory, 500 GB HDD, Blu-ray Disc/Super-Multi DL combo drive, Multi-in-1 card reader, Acer Nplify 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, Acer fingerprint reader, Acer Crystal Eye webcam, 8-cell Li-ion battery, 3-pin 120W AC adapter.
The third configuration Aspire 8942 featured the Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium, Intel Core i3-330M processor (2.13GHz, 3MB L3 cache), 18.4″ Full HD Acer CineCrystal LED LCD, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 (1G DDR3), 4 GB Memory, 320 GB HDD, Blu-ray Disc/Super-Multi DL combo drive, Multi-in-1 card reader, Acer Nplify 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, Acer fingerprint reader, Acer Crystal Eye webcam, 8-cell Li-ion battery, 3-pin 120W AC adapter.
Acer delivered the Aspire 8942 notebooks with either Windows 7 Home Premium, depending upon the rest of the hardware specification, including the processor, random access memory, and hard drive.

Acer developed the Aspire 8942 series with Dual-channel DDR3 SDRAM support, up to 8 GB of DDR3 1066 MHz memory, using two soDIMM modules.
The Aspire 8942 laptops included one or two S-ATA hard disc drives, but also the Multi-in-1 card reader, supporting Secure Digital (SD) Card, MultiMediaCard (MMC), Memory Stick (MS), Memory Stick PRO (MS PRO), xD-Picture Card (xD).
The Aspire 8942 notebooks were developed with either 4X Blu-ray Disc Writer/DVD SuperMulti double-layer combo drive, 4X Blu-ray Disc/DVD SuperMulti double-layer drive, or 8X DVD-Super Multi double-layer drive.

By using the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850 with up to 4901 MB of HyperMemory (1024 MB of dedicated DDR3 VRAM, up to 3067 MB of shared system memory), supporting Unified Video Decoder (UVD), OpenEXR High Dynamic-Range (HDR) technology, Shader Model 5.0, Microsoft DirectX 11, OpenGL 3.1, OpenCL 1.1, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 with up to 4091 MB of HyperMemory (1024 MB of dedicated DDR3 VRAM, up to 3067 MB of shared system memory), supporting Unified Video Decoder (UVD), OpenEXR High Dynamic-Range (HDR) technology, Shader Model 5.0, Microsoft DirectX 11, OpenGL 3.1, OpenCL 1.1, dual independent display support, Acer enabled better external video resolutions, with a maximum external video resolution of 2,048 x 1,536 pixels, at 16.7 million colors, and non-interlaced resolution with max. refresh rate: 1,280 x 1,024.
Acer developed the Aspire 8942 series with Dolby-optimized Acer CineSurround sound system with five built-in speakers and Acer Tuba CineBass booster supporting low-frequency effects, optimized 3rd Generation Dolby Home Theater® audio enhancement, featuring Dolby® Digital Live, Dolby Pro Logic IIx, Dolby Headphone, Dolby Natural Bass, Dolby Sound Space Expander, Dolby® Inverse Filtering, Dolby High Frequency Enhancer technologies, true5.1-channel surround sound output, Digital TV-tuner supporting DVB-T (Digital Video Broadcasting-Terrestrial) standard (6 to 8 MHz), high-definition audio support, S/PDIF (Sony/Philips Digital Interface) support for digital speakers, MS-Sound compatible, Acer PureZone technology with two built-in stereo microphones featuring beam forming, echo cancellation, and noise suppression technologies.
The Aspire 8942 networking is represented by:
- Intel Wireless WiFi Link 5100/5300 (dual-band quad-mode 802.11a/b/g/Draft-N) Wi-Fi CERTIFIED network connection, featuring MIMO technology, supporting Acer SignalUp with Nplify wireless technology;

Acer delivered the Aspire 8942 series with a medium range of interface ports: 1x ExpressCard/54 slot, 5x USB 2.0 ports, 1x eSATA port, 1x IEEE 1394 port, 1x HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) port with HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) support, 1x Display port, 1x Consumer infrared (CIR) port, 1x external display (VGA) port, 1 x RF-in jack, 1x Headphones/speaker/line-out jack with S/PDIF support, 1x Microphone-in jack, 1x Line-in jack, 1x Ethernet (RJ-45) port, 1x DC-in jack for AC adapter.
With a width of 440 mm, length of 295 mm, and a varying height from the lowest 31 mm (front side) to the highest 43.8 mm (back side), the Aspire 8942 series has a standard starting weight of 4.6 kg (10.1 lbs.) depending on configuration (with integrated AC adapter). Because of the physical dimensions, Acer included within the Aspire 8942 series:
- Backlit 103-/104-/107-key keyboard, with inverted “T” cursor layout;
- Multi-gesture touchpad pointing device, supporting:
- Circular-motion scrolling;
- Pinch-action zoom;
- Page flip;
- 10 function keys, four cursor keys, two Windows® keys, hotkey controls, standard numeric keypad, international language support, independent US and Euro dollar sign keys;
- Easy-launch keys: WLAN, Bluetooth, Acer Backup, Acer PowerSmart;
- Acer MediaTouch capacitive human interface device, including:
- Acer Arcade;
- Volume meter (volume up/down);
- Media control (play/pause, stop, previous, next);
- Mute and hold keys;
The Aspire 8942 notebooks were delivered with one-year parts and labor limited warranty with concurrent International Traveler’s Warranty. From the technological point of view, the Aspire 8942 was succeeded by the other Aspire 8xxx products, which currently includes the following Aspire models, such as Aspire 8940G, Aspire 8735G, Aspire 8943, Aspire 8730G, and Aspire 8530G.
